HIV/AIDS Research Networks Supported by the Division of AIDS, NIAID, NIH
AIDS Clinical Trials Group (ACTG)
- The AIDS Clinical Trials Group (ACTG), the largest HIV clinical trials organization in the world, plays a major role in setting standards of care for HIV infection and opportunistic diseases related to HIV/AIDS in the United States and the developed world.
HIV Prevention Trials Network (HPTN)
- The HIV Prevention Trials Network (HPTN) is a worldwide collaborative clinical trials network that develops and tests the safety and efficacy of primarily non-vaccine interventions designed to prevent the transmission of HIV.
HIV Vaccine Trials Network (HVTN)
- The HIV Vaccine Trials Network (HVTN) is an international collaboration of scientists and educators searching for an effective and safe HIV vaccine. The HVTN's mission is to facilitate the process of testing preventive vaccines against HIV/AIDS.
International Maternal Pediatric Adolescent AIDS Clinical Trials group (IMPAACT)
- IMPAACT is a merger of the Pediatric AIDS Clinical Trials Group (PACTG) and the Perinatal Scientific Working Group of the HPTN. IMPAACT will develop and evaluate safe and effective appoaches for the interruption of mother-to-infant transmission; evaluate treatment for HIV-infected children, adolescents, and pregnant women, including treatment and prevention of co-infections; and evaluate vaccines for the prevention of HIV transmission among adolescents.
International Network for Strategic Initiatives in Global HIV Trials (INSIGHT)
- INSIGHT is a merger of two existing clinical trials research groups, ESPRIT (Evaluation of Subcutaneous Proleukin® in a Randomized Clinical Trial) and the CPCRA (Terry Beirn Community Programs for Clinical Research on AIDS). INSIGHT will conduct studies in the area of optimization of clinical management of HIV, including co-morbidities.
Microbicide Trials Network (MTN)
- The MTN will conduct studies of microbicide safety and effectiveness with the goal of supporting licensure of products that will reduce the sexual transmission of HIV.
Additional Research Links
- The Dale and Betty Bumpers Vaccine Research Center (VRC) at the National Institutes of Health was established to facilitate research in vaccine development.
- The Adolescent Trials Network develops protocols on promising behavioral, microbicidal, prophylactic, therapeutic, and vaccine modalities in HIV-infected and HIV-at-risk adolescents, ages 12 through 24 years. The Adolescent Network also works collaboratively with other HIV/AIDS research networks.
